BRANTFORD, ON – The Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) is pleased to welcome Dr. Rebecca Comley as Acting Medical Officer of Health (MOH) beginning September 13, 2021.
Current Acting MOH, Dr. Malcolm Lock, who has filled the role on a temporary basis, will remain with BCHU and transition to a Public Health Physician position effective September 13, 2021.
Dr. Comley has completed a Master of Public Health degree and has worked as an Emergency Physician at Brantford General Hospital for the past 10 years. She has also acted as a consultant for the Public Health Agency of Canada.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has placed public health in the spotlight. It has reinforced how strongly our personal health is connected to the health of our community,” said Dr. Comley. “I am excited to be joining an organization that is committed to protecting and strengthening this community, through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.”
The search for a permanent MOH began in January 2021 after the announcement of the departure of then Acting MOH, Dr. Elizabeth Urbantke, who left BCHU in April 2021.
“On behalf of the Board of Health I am excited to welcome Dr. Comley to the Brant County Health Unit. Her local experience as a medical professional will be invaluable for our community and to BCHU as we move forward.” said John Bell, BCHU Board of Health Chair. “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Malcolm Lock for his willingness to step up for our community, in a time of great need.”
