Personal Service Settings

Public Health Inspectors inspect facilities offering personal services where there is a risk of exposure to blood and body fluids for clients and staff.​ These facilities are called Personal Service Settings (PSSs).

Types of services include:

  • Hairdressing and barbering
  • Tattooing
  • Body and ear piercing
  • Nail services
  • Microblading and micropigmentation
  • Waxing and laser hair removal
  • Facials and other facial treatments (e.g.. Dermaroller)

Public Health Inspectors inspect these businesses​ by:

  • Making sure that they comply with Ontario Regulation 136/18.
  • Making sure they follow infection prevention and control best practices.
  • Educating spa owners and workers on infection prevention and control.
  • Responding to consumer complaints.
